Mexico Trip

I recently came back from a vacation. I am planning a trip to Mexico early next year. I plan on going to Mexico City for 3 full days,a 1 day tour to Puebla with a Tour Company, and 1full day to guanajuato I just can do 5 full day and the 6th day head back to My hometown NYC. I have a question on guanajuato. People have said that it is very small, that one full day is possible. Can someone that has been there or has good info give a thought on that. This is one trip I am considering as well as 2 other ones to diffrent locations. Im aware that Mexico city is deffinately more than one day, im just curious on guanajuato the capital of the state of guanajuato

Guanajuato's population is about 160,000 depending on your source. As such, the centro historico is indeed smaller than that of the bigger cities, i.e., Puebla, Queretaro, etc. That doesn't mean it isn't a fascinating city. Now, when you say 1 full day, does that mean bus in and out (almost a 5 hour trip from DF) the same day or spend the night? If it's the former, it's probably a trip best saved for another time, as just a couple of hours doesn't do it justice. If you spend the night, you'd get a good feel for the city, as you can pretty much walk most of the historical center in a few hours, take the funicular to the mirador for the view, do a little shopping, then have a nice dinner.

It would be more leaving on a night flight and sleep there for the evening. the following day return back to mexico city late evening. transportation between both cities by plane. thats the reason i would do 1 full day.

Certainly doable, but it seems (to me) like a lot of expense and hassle just to spend one day. Even though it's only an hour flight, transfers and waiting in the airport will make it more like at least a 3 hour (or maybe 4 depending on traffic in DF and how close your hotel is to the airport) commitment. If you were flying out of BJX instead of returning to DF, it would make more sense.

We enjoyed Guanajuato a lot, and you could probably see the best of it in a day. But as the above comments indicate, it is a long way from Mexico City. Where else are you thinking of going?

You could do a whirlwind of GTO in a day but noway can you see even all the Museums in a day.
This is IMO the prettiest town in Mexico & needs at minimum 3 nights.
PS I have so far spent 5 weeks (2 trips) there & am spending 9 weeks more this year.
