Mexico CIty weather and attire
I apologize if i have posted this before -- i thought I did, but now I can't find it!
We are going to Mexico City the first week of September. What can we expect the weather to be like? Alot of rain?
Also, I keep reading that people dress up more in Mexico City. Is this true? What type of clothing should we bring?

May rain a bit but at it's altitude the temps are almost always pleasant there.
What we call "Business Casual" in the US works fine in DF. Khaki type pants, collared shirts & closed toe shoes are the norm during the day. No Shorts or sandals unless you like to get disapproving looks.

Would agree that business casual is most appropriate for Mexico City, but don't understand the no sandals part? LOTS of people wear sandals, including our friends who live there and teach at the university. Maybe you mean no flip-flops? But even that is not really too bad.

You will fit in more if you wear business casual. The better restaurants look down on people that wear t-shirts and shorts. You'll get better service, everywhere, if you look like a person of means. I've been going to Mexico City for years to celebrate the 16th of September and never found the weather a problem. Take a light sweater and shoes you don't mind getting wet (if your caught outside in a down pour). The rain is so predictable you can almost set your watch by it, arrives around mid-afternoon and last for an hour, after that...sunshine.

I hate to sound like a bum, but we were there in early July, and I wore flip flops part of the time and the Salomon Tech Amphibians that I travel with, also. Perhaps I just didn't notice, but didn't seem to be getting disapproving looks. I really couldn't tell that anyone paid any attention to my feet. We wore long shorts one day and I wore capris another day. No revealing stuff or tank tops. . .
