Looking for a beautiful family beach vacation spot in Mexico that wouldn't be too hot or crowded in August. Wanting pretty scenery, water activities, good restaurants and hotel bargains. Not Cancun. Any suggestions?

If you are looking for a nice family destination in Mexico with good restaurants and water sports I would suggest Puerto Vallarta. The heat and humity will be quiet high that time of year but since it is low season you could get a pretty good deal on hotel rates and crowds should not be an issue. We are going in June/July this year and have gotten a rate at the Villa Del Palmar of $100 CDN a night for a studio with kitchenette.

I would have to say there is no Mexican beach that wouldn't be too hot for me in August. Even by June the heat and humidity are too much for me. If I were planning a family beach vacation in August, I would be more inclined to seek a US destination: one of the Great Lakes, Cape Cod, northern Florida, Nag's Head, etc. All the beautiful beaches that wouldn't be warm enough in the spring are great in August, whereas Mexico, which is delightful in February, March and April, is just too hot (for me) in June, July, August.

The beaches at Los Cabos are less broilingly humid than any others in Mexico in August. Has to do the breezes bathing Baja's tip. <BR> <BR>

cancun is the place. pv is a rat hole full of bottom feeders. many try and sell so said great place to eat news letters. and oh yeah they like to sell times shares if not real estate. take your chances in the land of sewage on the beach.

I think Bob must have made a typo & have it reversed as I've heard Cancun referred to MUCH more like he said Vallarta. Vallarta has WONDERFUL locals, GREAT restaurants & LOTS of charm - when you get away from the mainstream touristy stuff (where you'll find the timeshare people [RARELY a good investment!!], etc.). It's TRULY MAGICAL!!! though it IS hot & humid there JUST LIKE ALL the other tropical destinations in Aug. - main difference - it's been AGES since a hurricane's gone into Banderas Bay & NONE of those other destinations can boast of that!!! Can't beat the prices in Aug. Stay south of the Rio Cuale (in Old Town/SouthSide/Muertos) or futher south from that for a TRULY MAGICAL vacation!!!

Hello Barbara, <BR> <BR>If you want to go someplace non-touristy try Puerto Escondido or nearby Huatulco. The majority of tourists here are from other towns in Mexico, and for that reason prices are much cheaper than towns geared towards American and European tourists. Huatulco is the more developed of the two, and probably has more family activities to offer.

Barbara, <BR>I have to disagree with Emily on the recommendation of Huatulco. She's right that it's not crowded, but the pretty scenery, water activities, and good restaurants are not near each other. It would be nice to find all of those in one place. As for hotel bargains -- you <BR>pretty much get what you pay for. If it's inexpensive, it's not very nice. At least that was our experience there. <BR>Maybe Puerto Escondido is a different story.

I'd avoid Acapulco in August! I just got back from there (May 19-26). It was AWFULLY humid and I've been around Mexico several times. Besides, found the place to be very rough around the edges. There's not much scenery per se. <BR>I stayed at Las Brisas which is WAY overpriced for what you get. Give me P.V. over Acapulco, anyday!

I recommend you look at Isla Mujeres. Stay in town close to Playa Norte, which is a terrific beach for children. The restaurants and accommodation are very reasonably priced. It only takes 20 minutes by ferry from Cancun and you are in a different world. Check out Isla-Mujeres.net
