Mayan Palace Nuevo Vallarta
We are going to this hotel for a week and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions about restaurants, tours and transportation into Puerto Vallarta.
We don't know anything about this hotel and would appreciate any information you can give us.
Thank you

There are several restaurants at the Mayan Palace. They have a Taco Break restaurant on the golf course which is good for inexpensive tacos. We like Fajita Republic in Nuevo and you can walk to Guido's which is a decent Italian Restaurant. The best dining is in PV....Love the Red Cabbage and Victor's Cafe Tecuba in the Marina

Dear Auntie:
We stayed at the Grand Mayan, NV several years ago. Click on this link for my trip report. We had a great time. NV is a ways from PV, but you will still enjoy your time there.

We cooked a lot, although the fridges are small. And the grocery on the premises is limited and expensiveis. So we took a cab to Paradise Village resort, they have a great store in their mall outside of the resort. The Marina is a great place to try different restaurants, I Think it was a 25 minute taxi ride

The resort itself is in a huge "compound" with a manned gated entrance to the compound. The Grand Mayan and the Mayan Sea Garden resorts are also in this compound.
Taxis that you get in either town are not allowed past the gate. Its a LONG LONG walk to the resort. Arrange your return transportation through the resort.

okay Auntie.. you are in for a treat. The resort is paradise! There are some restaurants right on the resort. You'll want to have at least one breakfast at the big buffet which is in the palapa building. You can't miss it. If you want to relax on the beach or at the pool, waiters are ready to take your order for drinks and food.
If you are looking to eat off the resort, there is a restaurant right outside of the resort called La Portina. The cab ride is abour $2-$3. Well worth it.
Puerto Vallarta is about a 20 minute cab ride which will cost approx $18-$20. Always ask "how much" before you get in the cab. Don't miss shopping at the flea market by the river. Ask to be dropped off at the "walk across bridge" not the drive over bridge.. it's more fun. From the flea market you can walk your way back to the malecon. We have found a good restaurant there called El Anderiego. I'm not sure if the spelling is right, but it's right on the main street on a corner.
Lots of things to do also. If you want to swim with dolphins or do an ATV tour or zip line.. it's all right there. Check out PuertoVallarta.net for all kinds of information.
One thing we've learned to do. On our first full day at the resort we take a cab to the Super Walmart and buy our groceries for the week. That way, if we want to eat in, we have a choice. This won't work for you if you are not staying in the master suite though. If you are, you will have a stove, fridge, microwave, dishes and silverware.
You'll have a great time.. if you have any more questions, just ask... we were there in May and are heading back in November.. that's how much we love it... we try to get there at least once a year.
Have a wonderful vacation.

Hi again... I was just reading the other replies. Things may have changed, but all taxis are allowed in the resort now. They are stopped at the gate and the driver has to give his identification number and your room number. Then the cab is allowed to take you to the "front door."
