Mata Rocks by a mile. It's has a nice laid-back, barefoot beachside feel. Great little beach bar, and they've just put in a pool, which is all it lacked before.

Tropica is arguably on a better stretch of beach, but the hotel is for sale.

--Lan Sluder

The largest grocery on the island, Island Supermarket (not really that big but it has all the basics) is about a mile from Maya Rocks. Closer by are a couple of small neigborhood tiendas, which have bread, beer, cokes and a few basics. One is just a few hundred feet away.

Yes, there are a number of restaurants nearby, and the more are opening on the South End -- Rico's at Banyan Bay (great setting, okay food), a new restaurant (steak house kind of place) opening in December at Banana Beach next door, Antojitos San Telmo (good tacos and such, dirt cheap), the restaurant at Tropica, restaurant at Victoria House (excellent but expensive). Several other excellent restaurants are a little further away but still within walking distance -- Picasso, Jade Garden, George's.

--Lan Sluder
