I am considering stay at Maroma in May. I understand this is a new resort, and would appriciate any information from anyone who has stayed there.

altho it gets rave reviews I found that it fell short of the mark especially in the food department. Rooms were also sparcely furnished and not comfortable. It is not a new resort but has recently been found by many.

traveler, <BR>can you give more details as to why it fell short for you? It sounds so nice, I was considering it for a 25 anniv. type thing...is it not luxurious enough, and do you know of others better equipped?<BR>thanks

after the trip we agreed that we should not have stayed the whole 10 nites there but maybe split up the trip. We made plans at the last minute but reserved oceanview room since they had no beachfront rooms available. Not a good decision as we were at the back of the resort and if you twisted your head just ever so right you could glimpse the water. They refused to acknowledge that this was NOT an oceanview room but one that overlooked the garden and pool (it just happened to be on the 3rd floor so you could glimpse between the other buildings a see a bit of water). It was also adjacent to the septic system which may or may not have had a &quot;temporary&quot; problem when we were there. The aroma of Maroma wasn't pleasant! Do not get a room in the Rosa building! (and in fact not a chair other than a desk chair in the room). Its layout didn't work for us - an open bath off the bedroom with only half swinging doors a la saloon doors to the water closet. Lovely to look at tho!<BR>Food was medicore. Management staff was not particularly attentive (owners were on extended absence) but the young waiters and conseirge staff were delightful. But since the owners are back in residence and there has been some staffing changes that might be improved or back to its normal reported level. Harpers still thinks its wonderful and it was on their recommendation that we tried it. <BR>I have been unable to asertain if there has been any impact on the wonderful quiet beach since the all inclusive that they were building next door has been completed. <BR>Seems to me that the most requested room might be Room 9 since it affords the most comfortable accomodations and views but may be mistaken. <BR>We did take our own coffee pot to make coffee in the am since early service was sometimes early and sometimes not but often the breads served in the room were nothing more than leftover cookies and stale breads from the days before. They supplied plenty of bottled water. <BR>Have oddles of pix of beach etc and could email them to you.

Hi Loren,<BR> If you plan on staying in your room your whole vacation, then maybe Maroma is not the place for you. But, if you like beautiful beaches, a quiet romantic environment, good food (in my opinion), and a very accomodating staff then this is the place for you. I agree with Traveler on his disappointment of &quot;a room with a view&quot; and the rooms were more quaint than luxurious. This hotel caters to couples by offering private dinners beachside and candles lit throughout the property. We loved it and will definitely go back. My husband and I are leaving next week for Ikal del Mar (same area, newer hotel for couples), I'll report on this hotel upon our return. Any questions about Maroma feel free to ask.

Loren: I've been doing a bit of research lately for an anniversary trip to the carribean. One of the best all around resorts I've found is Peter Island in the BVI. Check out their website. An alternate, well-kept secret in the US is Little Palm Island down in the FL Keys (gets outstanding reviews). Hope this helps.
