Trip Report Marlin and Dorado fishing in Cabo San Lucas

Jump to last reply

While I have not yet received the pics of the Stripped Marlin I caught in Cabo - the one who jumped completely out of the water at least 8 times (looked like a Rainbow Trout it was so agile - but hey - it was a wee bit bigger at 125 pounds or thereabouts) - below are some pics of these incredible acrobats of the sea.

I have also included the utube video of a 900? pound sea lion - Pancho - stealing a nice Dorado from a fisherman who was displaying it after returning to port. Pancho is a real character - and he hops up on the transom/rear deck of the sport fishing boats as they come back into the harbor - and enjoys eating the remaining bait fish that the deck hand tosses him. If you are sitting in the fighting chair - Pancho is eyeball to eyeball with ye - about 3 feet away and he does have some real teeth.

And last but not least - some pics of when my wife and sister went out fishing with moi one morning - and they each caught a nice Dorado - the bigger one being about 20 pounds.

Uno Mas: We (most of the time with my grade school buddy - John Enright - and his cousin Dave) - enjoyed fishing with three different groups while down in Cabo - all very good:
Beto's Sportfshing http://www.betossportfishing.com/ - with Senor Beto and his two sons - Luis and Richardo directing and Captains Lupe and Luis being very good,

RedRum Fleet - http://www.redrumcabo.com/ - with John Donovan and his son Ryan expertly handling their fleet of boats/captains and Tiffany in the office keeping it all together,

and we also enjoyed Hector ("The fish collector and protector") sending us out in his Edith Fleet - http://www.cabovillasbeachresort.com/ediths-sportfishing.htm .

If they are all booked - Solmar Fleet is also very good - and sport boat Captain Lino was our guy. http://www.solmar.com/fishing.php

We then had our catch prepared dockside - 8 different ways (including Dorado/Mahi Rockefeller) - at Mis Suenos ("My Dream") restaurant- and it was excellent. http://www.loscabosguide.com/missuenos/
