Manuel Antonio to Osa
Hi all, I am returning to CR and cannot wait to get back. I'd really like to go down to the Osa this time but we loved Makanda by the sea in MA so much that we'd like to begin or end our trip there. My issue is with transportation. I know its smart to stay a night near SJO upon arrival due to the flight schedule of flying to the Osa. Can I bypass this by driving to MA first? Is it unrealistic to make the drive from MA to the Osa? Is flying the best option? Is there somewhere we can safely keep our rental car in MA while in the Osa?
Also, Ive read great things about Bosque, La Paloma, and El Romansco. They are a bit pricey tho. I wont mind if its worth it, although my guy insists on a/c or somewhere he can sleep soundly without being hot. Any advice on where else to stay?
We've travelled from Monteverde, to MA, to Atenas all by rental car on our last trip. Im just trying to figure out the logistics of going to both MA and the Osa and seem to be having a hard time. Any itinerary advice would be awesome. Thanks!

We loved staying at Bosque del Cabo; they don't have air conditioning though. The trails and wildlife are incredible. We saw all 4 species of monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, coatis, agoutis, and an anteater there. We flew from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez. I'm not sure Sansa or Nature Air fly directly from MA to the Osa. For a lot of those flights you have to fly back to San Jose. We did the short drive from the PJ "airport" to Bosque del Cabo and encountered a tree across the road, cattle in the road, and had to drive over some small streams. If you drive you have to be prepared to encounter some bumps in the road.

It was in the low 90s during the day and in the 80s at night, pretty humid. I was hot, but I live in a really humid climate and keep our a.c. on 72 degrees. I just slept without any covers on. I can't think of any places that have a.c. in that area; most of them are very eco friendly. I completely thought it was worth staying there though. We did have a small fan in our room so that helped to keep the air moving. If you stay there, I'd recommend a cabin up on the cliff overlooking the ocean vs. being in a garden cabin so you can get the ocean breeze.

Yes, you can fly from Quepos airstrip to Puerto Jimenez (45 min). This is probably the easiest way to do it. T
From Puerto Jimenez to El Remanso, Bosque del Cabo or La Rios is another 45 min-1 hour by 4X4. This leg is tricky, during the rainy season it can be quite challenging to drive so I would say is best to go with the flight and transportation offered by the hotels at an additional cost. An alternative is to drive (nearly 4h 30 min-5 hours).

I have stayed at El Remanso Lodge last year, it was one of the best nature experiences that I have ever had, it is just one of the only destinations in Costa Rica where humans have not touch it all, and you can still find some species that are unique and hard to find... The place is remote and is humid, and they only have a fan in the room,,, but the beauty of the area + all animals that you can see make it worth it!
