I am looking to book an AI resort in the Riviera Maya. So far I have checked out RIU Palace Mexico, Iberostar Paraiso Lindo, both Secrets resorts and The Royal Hideaway. Has anyone been to any of these places? I am having a hard time choosing! Thank you!

We stayed at Barcelo AI a couple of years ago and were not really happy. Room was not the cleanest and we saw dead roaches in the hallways. We had one in our shower cap box! That ruined the stay for me. Rest of the resort was nice and the rooms toward the pool looked cleaner. I have heard Secrets is a gorgeous resort with wonderful servie. My brother stayed in the one in Punta Cana. My agent had said RIU and Iberostar were both very nice resorts, but also said Secrets was top notch. Good luck. I'd pick the highest rated because Rivera Maya is pretty isolated and you'll spend most of your time at the resort - everything else is pretty far away.
We stayed at Royal Hideaway this past April and loved it. This was our first trip to an AI, which we generally stay away from because of all the comments about bad food, etc. But we chose this because the hotel looked great and the comments about the food were very positive. We had a great time. The resort is beautiful, fairly small and intimate. Room was very nice, good size. The food was excellent, with good choice of restaurants. Pool area was very nice, as was the beach. I highly recommend it.
We stayed at Moon Palace which is considered part of Riviera Maya. Very nice resort with a massive pool, swim-up bars, etc. Rooms were very clean with jacuzzis in all rooms. www.palaceresorts.com
We have been to the Royal Hideaway 4 times in the past 5 years, anad are headed back in Feb. This is, without a doubt, the finest AI in Mexico, perhaps anywhere. It is pricey - no question about it, but if you search hard enough, there ARE deals sto be had. From what I can ascertain, it is certainly a cut above the other resorts that you mention
We just returned after our 2nd trip to the Riu Palace and it was magnificent. The resort is in a horseshoe shape and we (after much haggling) stayed in room 2127 overlooking the pool and the fountains. Unfortunately our last 3 days we had poor weather but you just never know this time of the year. The beach isn't as close to the rooms but we usually spent our mornings at the pool then lunch then the beach in the afternoon. The beach is usually crowded but the water is fantastic. No rocks! I'd suggest this everytime.
Royal Hideaway ..hands down.None of the palaces can compare..trust me, I'm an admitted hotel snob.....
You've really listed some resorts with different prices. If you have lots of money the Royal Hideaway is the way to go. If you want something very nice for less money, I'd be inclined to try the Riu Palace which gets great reviews. I have been to the Lindo which is great also, but bigger than the Riu Palace.
