Layover in San Salvador en route to Costa Rica
Hi Everyone!
I am in the process of booking a flight to Costa Rica for my family of 5 from New York. There are two reasonably priced options and they both have short layovers in San Salvador. The longest of the two layovers is only 1 hour and 13 minutes. Will this give us enough time? Do we have to re-check our bags and go through security again? Please give me your advice if you think this is doable. Thanks in advance for all your help!

I had your same concerns when we flew SFO to CR. Our layover was about 45 min. No problems. Your bags are checked thru to CR, so no re-checking. The airport is very small and easy. If you do miss your flight(you probably won't), there are plenty others to get you to your destination. In fact, on our way back to SFO, they held the plane for an incoming connection from CR.

Michelle,
Thanks so much for your quick reply! That makes me feel so much better about the flight. Did you have to go through security again? I appreciate your help! Thank you

It's a good, efficient airport for connections. All the TACA gates are in the same area so you get off your incoming flight and walk to your connecting gate. No security, no passport control because you don't officially enter El Salvador. But as Michelle mentioned above, they do a check of all carry-on items at the gate for flights to the U.S. It goes quickly, but everybody has to go through it.
