Anyone stayed there? My wife and I are considering it for a June anniversary trip (sans kids).
Can I get some reviews of the rooms, breakfast, lunch (available a la carte, but what's the fare and price?), service, location, etc.
Also, I would appreciate any specific information on the beach at Jade Bay. Thanks!

While staying at the Akumal Caribe recently, I walked down to Jade Bay for the first time. The Las Villas looked quite nice, right on the beach. Jade Bay looked pretty good, some rocky areas, some seaweed and such, but swimmable. Jade Bay is a bit isolated from the rest of Akumal, you have to drive out on the highway to access it from Akumal Bay which has several restaurants and shops. You can walk to Akumal Bay from Jade Bay but it's a good 2o minute walk along the beach. A car might be a good idea if you were staying here - funky, busy Tulum Pueblo is just 15 miles or so south.
If you're looking for a quiet place to just veg out, Jade Bay might be a good choice.
Thanks, zootsi. We will be renting a car for visiting Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, etc. So "a bit isolated" would not be an obstacle. Glad to hear Akumal Bay is a walkable destination. We are good for 20 minutes beach walks, provided it's not over rocky terrain in-between.
Care to recommend any restaurants at Akumal Bay, or other nearby locations?
Lots of good places to eat In Akumal. The Lol-Ha snack bar is right on the beach - it's actually far more than a snack bar - the pork tacos, fish tacos, homemade soups are great, and the beers are cheap. Don't miss the 5:30 happy hour every day. My favorite all around seafood place is the Turtle Bay Bakery - again, don't let the name fool you - it's actually a very good restaurant a short walk from the beach. Right next door to it is the Pescador, another very good seafood place. If you walk outside the arches at the entrance to Akumal (about 5 minute walk from the beach), you will see the Loncheria, a casual outdoor Mexican spot. Lots of inexpensive, basic Mexican selections.
Yal-Ku lagoon, which is at the end of the small road thru Akumal (about 2 miles from Akumal Bay) is a must do. This is a small privately owned lagoon famous for it's snorkeling. About $10 admission, and they do rent gear.
About half way between Akumal Bay and Yal-Ku is the Buena Vida, another fun place to eat. It's right on the beach at Half Moon Bay.
