Hi, Has anyone stayed there? My husband and I planning to take 2 kids (6 and 8) with us to stay at Las Palapas. The beachfront rooms are booked. Are the Garden Deluxe rooms good? Far from beach? Too many bugs? There are also the standard rooms available. We've heard dinner is not so great, and to stick with just breakfast option (don't like all inclusives anyway.) We'd love to hear any experiences.
Thanks!

We just returned form Las Palapas. First, it is the best resort on the beach in Playa del Carmen. It has the prettiest and cleanest beach and the water was not too rough. We stayed in a Garden Deluxe which was plenty big for the four of us (2 adults, 2 teens). After exploring the town and beach for a week, we would not stay anywhere else and we would definitely go back to Las Palapas. BUT...ABOUT THE BUGS...Our Garden Deluxe unit developed a bug problem our last night which was incredibly scary for my daughter and I. At least 5 huge stink bugs (I think that's what they were) were in our room...one of them on her headboard and one crawled into my husbands shirt while he was sleeping and it woke him up. YIKES. We could not be moved to another room because the hotel wsa booked solid and we were leaving the next morning anyway. Upon check out, we did confirm that there were lowever level units without a thatched roof that would accomodate the four of us in the future. We were also informed that we could request the room be fumigated before our check in and also during our stay. Aside from the bugs, this resort is fantastic and we truly do recommend it. There is a "jungle" adjacent to the property which has a nature walk. My son and his friends went on that and saw seven monkeys, many iguanas and other wildlife. I passed. I'm a beach person and found the beach and Caribbean Sea perfect...no nature tour needed. I'll be happy to anser any questions you have. You will have a great time.
i agree with remy. we've stayed at las palapas twice (w/ 10 y.o. daughter) and are headed back in june. it is a most beautiful (and relaxing) place. when are you going? last june it was hot, but we were fine in the garden deluxe room WITH a/c. they're not far from the beach as the whole place is rather small. my daughter got a lot of bug bites, but she still wants to go back. definitely get the breakfast - it's awesome. we like lunch in the clubhouse, too. then we just hang around until later in the day and walk into town for dinner.
remy, your experience with the bugs sounds awful! that would really freak me out. do you think the thatched roof was an issue? we've always stayed there in the past. regardless, i will be in touch with them before we go about fumigating!
Thanks for the info. We are headed down in July. Can't wait to go. Remy, I'm impressed you still enjoyed everything after your bug experience. That creep me out! But it really sounds like a special place. We have reserved a room without a/c, but if that means a thatched roof, we may be facing some bugs. We'll have to give it some more thought...
not to butt in here, but unless you're pretty tough, air conditioning in Playa in July is a very good idea. It gets pretty hot!
