I've booked a 5-night stay here around New Year's:

Any thoughts on this hotel? I am being charged 510 pesos per night for a single room.

I suspect there won't be heating. Is this a problem at night in Oaxaca? (I did find it a problem in Zacatecas in the winter.)

If you have any other suggestions for lodging, that are roughly in the same price range, please post them. If you think that a more expensive place is definitely worth it, please post that too.

I suspect Zacatecas may be colder than Oaxaca in the winter. I am a person who gets too cold easily, but have lived in Oaxaca for 12 years with no heating. You will want a blanket(s) some nights, but it always warms up during the day.

HAae stayed at Los Golondrinas several times in January and Feb and never needed heat. Its a charming B&B, very basic and comfortable. Nice location, easy to walk everywhere from it. Owners were very helpful and served nice breakfasts.

We were also in Zacatecas a couple years ago in Feb and didn't need heat there, so maybe we have had warmer weather then u experienced. Enjoy Oaxaca

Yestravel, when I was in Zacatecas, the newspaper headline was (in Spanish), "Possibility of snow", although I don't think it actually did. Certainly it was cold enough for it (below freezing).

Las Golondrinas is a very nice place, particularly for the price. I was afraid the location would be too far from the zocalo, but it was fine. It's close to Santo Domingo, an area of Oaxaca that I quite liked. The breakfasts at LG are fine, and the courtyard is beautiful, but another really nice place for breakfast is at El Piacere, a couple blocks away on Allende, on their rooftop terrace.
