Lapa Rios OR BOSQUE DEL CABO- the real deal?

Ok, I am torn between which one to stay at.

What are the big differences between the two?
Which one has nicer bunagalows with a better views?
Which has nicer overall grounds?
Which one would you see more animal life form the balcony of your bungalow?

Is Lapa Rios worth the extra money?

Thanks everyone for any insight.

hi dougieo -- haven't been to either, but had the same questions earlier this year when I was trying to decide between the two for my honeymoon this upcoming March...decided on BdC from reading many past reviews on this board covering both places in detail (including reports from those whom had been to both) -- try searching for "bosque del cabo" & "lapa rios" I think you'll find all the information you're looking for

We see tons of wildlife just sitting on our porch at Bosque del Cabo. Every day, several times, groups of birds or monkeys would be right overhead or in front of us in the trees. The grounds are much more user friendly as there are very nice grassed and landscaped grounds to walk around on as well as hiking trails through the forest.

I honestly don't think the rooms are that much better at Lapa Rios. LR is built on a ridge and overlooks the Gulfo Dulce. Bosque is built on the whole Cabo Matapalo point and you can see the Pacific or Gulfo Dulce depending on where you are walking.

I did like the private deck at Lapa Rios and that is the one thing that would make the cabinas at Bosque just a little nicer. I do like the shower at Bosque!

Overall we do prefer Bosque del Cabo.

Food is very good at both places. Several of the workers at Bosque used to work at LR.

Kinda strange.

Bosque del Cabo seems to get all the great reviews on this board and elsewhere and correct me if I am wrong but

Bosque is approx. $200 cheaper per night per couple than Lapa Rios.

Why are people willing to pay the extra $200 per night if these two resorts are so similar.

I just dont get it. Can someone please explain the disparity? Thanks all.

I'm not really sure what is 'kinda strange' about it but.....Having not been to Lapa Rios, but to Bosque twice, I don't know personally why the diff in cost. I think LR is marketed a more as a luxury destination as opposed to Bosque; I've seen many ads for them in travel mags but never for Bosque. I looked at both when I first thought of going to the Osa but the biggest thing that made me choose Bosque, regardless of price, is just the amount of stuff to do without having to do/pay for a tour. And of course, after going there once, coming back again and seeing the same great people.

Again as I haven't been to Lapa I can't comment, but just from my cabina at Bosque I have seen countless macaws, agoutis, coatis, capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys & howler monkeys (watching me watching them as I showered ) a snake & tons of birds.
