Language school for senior citizens?
Does anyone know of a Spanish immersion school that might have a program for "older" (60's) adults. I visited a few in Antigua, Guatemala last year and seemed to see mostly younger students. Would prices be more reasonable in Ecuador and Guatemala than in Costa Rica? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

The only place I've studied (besides my local community college!) was Ixbalanque school in Copán Ruinas, Honduras - highly recommended. There was a nice mix of ages and interests and the school accommodated all of us with 1-on-1 instruction and homestays if requested. Copán is a lovely base and I enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. This summer I'll be studying at the Central American Spanish School in La Ceiba and on Utila; they also have a base on Roatán. The 2 schools work together in case you want a variety of locations. Hope you find just what you're looking for and please post a review - I'm always interested to hear about language schools. Happy trails!

hopefulist,
Thanks so much for your information. I have been to Copan, but did not visit any language schools at that time. It is a very pretty area and I will look into links you provided.
Suggestions from anyone else?

School of Spanish in southern Spain, the home of many retired northEuropeans have special classes for residents, 90 minutes a week, and those are geared mostly to retirees. But I don't know of any such arrangements in Latin America.

Anciana,
Thanks for your information. Do you have the website address for the school you mentioned? I did a Google search for "School of Spanish in southern Spain" and got several sites, but nothing with that name.
Thanks so much for your help.

I don't think that the school I was referring to has a web page, but you can contact them by email. This link http://www.almunecar.info/turismo/idiomas_en.html lists several schools. At least one of them, the Intercity school has the long term 90 minutes program.

Tigerpaw,
Although not specifically for "older" students, I can thoroughly recommend a great school in the Orosi valley, just 90 minutes from San Jose, Costa Rica.
Orosi is a peaceful village nested in the mountains, with plenty to do if you like nature and prefer to explore the surroundings at your own pace rather than sign up for organised tours. There's a friendly atmosphere and you’ll not only receive a genuine 'hello' from the locals you pass in the street, but they'll also encourage your attempts to speak Spanish in the supermaket, bakery and internet cafe.
Montana Linda Spanish School offers great value for money and caters for all levels, and when I was there I met students from a range of ages. Classes run from Monday to Friday, but the school offers lots of flexibility with regards to lesson times (8-11am, 12-3pm or 3-6pm) and accommodation (guest house, hostel or homestay), as long as you arrive by Sunday afternoon or call to make reservations in advance. I chose the cosy hostel as the budget option, but if you want more of an "immersion" experience this can easily be accommodated as I know that fellow students had a great time with their friendly homestay families, which were all within five minutes walk from the school.
I hope you find this useful. Check out the school’s website, www.montanalinda.com, or Lonely Planet pages 122 and 143 (6th edition) for more information.
You might also like to look at a time-saving comparison site I found, www.spanishschoolscostarica.net
Best wishes for happy and safe travels!
