Isla Mujeres w/ Young Children
I am considering a 1st-time trip to IM with my husband and 3 very young children (ages 4, 2 and 9 mos). Is this a good family destination? Any hotel/other lodging suggestions? I'm not interested in an AI as we like to try local restaurants. Thanks!

I haven't been but am researching for a visit next summer. I'm pleased by the number of budget to mid-price ($35-65) and slightly hire priced apartment options. You should consider buying the Can-Do Travel guide for IM:
http://www.cancunmap.com/isla_mujeres.html
It lists a huge number of lodging options not found in the guidebooks - a great starting point.
We like to check out local restaurants when we travel and enjoy shopping and preparing some of our own meals. Having an apartment would be especially great with kids, I think. Let me know if you'd like me to pass on some names of recommended apartments I've dug up (but remember I haven't been yet). Keep us posted!!

I have been twice with my son and his mom . once at thanksgiving for 1 week and the next year at xmas for 2 weeks. It is great if you want a quiet place to vacation. the island is small and the people are very nice. we rented a house for the time we were there but they have good hotels and a real nice grocery store. the resturants are great from inexpensive to way past our price range. This is a very quite family kinda place a lot of fishermen so real good sea food and they have some good bars in town but usually close up by 12 or so you can rent golf carts for the day or week if you are getting a house away from the north end of the island it is worth it to rent one for the week .But taxi's are way cheap like 50 cent - a $1.00 from one end to the other. Diving is supposed to be very good . .north beech has a great sunset from the caribbeen queen bar it is a lil leanto kinda bar w/ swings for seats you can swim & drink there all day and it is close to the main part of town . xmas newyears is a great time to go they really do it up for new years in the town square. If youy want a quiet place to go where the kids will be welcome it's a nice place . just not as fancy or crowded or rowdy as the mainland in cancun. Hope you enjoy the island. every one i have met that went there always winds up going back. it one of those places you cant get out of your head.
