Is Cabo a good choice?

My friends and I would like to take a trip over Spring Break and someone suggested Cabo.
We are in grad school and range in age from 24 to 30 (so we're looking for spring break "fun" , but not quite the "wild" and/or "crazy" atmosphere of Cancun).
We'd like a nice beach, some active night life, and the guys want to play golf.

(1) First, is the water warm there by March?

(2) Does anyone have suggestions of where to stay? We thought about trying to rent a house. Anyone have any insight?
OR
(3)in the alternative, maybe someone has a suggestion of a better destination?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I am surprised none has replied to you. Yhere is an overwhelming number of negative comments about Cabo. Do a search and you will probably switch to Puerto Vallarta or Playa del Carmen.

Hi Amber, my husband and I just got back from Cabo in Oct. It was very nice. I think it sounds like a good match for what you are looking for. There is a lot to do in Cabo. The night life can be as crazy as you want it or not at all. Golfing is great there and there are so many water sports for you to do. To swim though you need to be on Medano Beach. There are like 4 resorts right on it so you could chose one of those if you want to be on the beach. a lot of the resorts are time shares though so Im not sure how you would book them as a hotel. email me if you need anything!

I love Cabo! My boyfriend & I have a timeshare on Medano Beach and go every November (this will be my 4th year). There are plenty of party places, Squid Row, Giggling Marlin, Carlos & Charlies, etc... There is also fine dining (Edith's), great fishing and great relaxing! I would reccomend Hacienda Hotes (budget), Melia San Lucas (deluxe) or if you want a nice spa, Pueblo Bonito Rose. I leave next Friday for 2 weeks and I can't wait!

Cabo would be a great spot. The weather will be plenty warm, and there is a variety of nightlife, from fine dining to lots of fun. In Cabo you don't get solely Spring Breakers. Quite a few of my friends go there annually and all are successful professionals, who would hate Cancun.

Also there is lots of golf.

You could go to cyberrentals.com to rent a condo. There are some great deals there at some truly nice resorts like the Hacienda del Mar, Melia and Westin. Very, very nice spots away from the downtown.

Given the fact that you are grad students, I'd venture to guesss that you would be happier in Cabo than PV. Don't ask why, as Fodors version of WWIII will ensue. Suffice it to say that Cabo draws a more sophisticated crowd and we'll leave it at that.

Have fun, I really think it's a perfect choice given your criteria.

Cabo draws a more sophisticated crowd than Puerta Vallarta. Give me a break.

One thing these posts have not addressed is the prices in Cabo. Not a mention. You know Why? It is because they are outrageous. Grad Students what type of budget are you on.

Sophisticated in Cabo LOL. Cabo is a dump. Save yourself some money and go to Tijuana you will get strip bars, drugs, tacky tourists dives, pimps, tranvestites, hookers and beer all for the Cabo price. Mucho dollars.

Medano Beach is overun with Vendors of every type imaginable. The entire resort gears around Timeshare Sales, therefore everyone in town is in on the Game.

Here is a good website for young guys is you want to get down to Zipolte or other area where the young and restless hang.

www.tomzap.com

or if you want to go cheap here is a rental guide for you.
Forget buying the timeshare:
Rent:
www.tradingplaces.com

Hi,
My husband and I and another couple returned from Cabo last monday. We stayed in San Jose (about 20 miles from downtown cabo). We stayed at the Royal Solaris All inclusive. The food was good, great varity and always available. The drinks were good, too.
The price was very reasonable. Royal Solaris is locted on the Sea of Cortez, but the water is very rough. We stayed around the pool. You can walk to San Jose, a very quaint town and quiet as opposed to Cabo. Acab ic $40 from San Jose to Cabo. The bus is $1.60. I would go back! If you have any other questions send me an email

regarding the *Loves Cabo* post above...

Cabo draws a "more sophisticated" crowd that Puerto Vallarta??? And given the fact they are "grad students" they'd be "happier there"???

What incredibly narrow minded thinking inspires these conclusions?
