Ipanema hotel
Going to be staying in Ipanema but stuck between a choice of 3 hotels. Sol Ipenema, Praia Ipanema and the Ipanema Plaza. I have done a search and just can't choose between them. I do know the Plaza is the newer of the three, maybe the deciding factor would be the pool. It would help if there was a nice pool area to go to after a days sightseeing
Thanks

I first stayed in the Sol Ipanema in 1980 and it has a great location but a friend of mine recently stayed there and said it was in need of renovation. On my next trip to Rio I was looking at the Ipanema Plaza to stay, a different location not right on the beach but just 1 block away but on a very nice street with good restaurants and bars. I would choose the Ipanema Plaza as I have been in it and it is nice with a nice lobby/bar/restaurant on the first floor. Im not familiar with the Ipanema Praia. Im not sure how big the pool is but by Rio standards probably not too big, just a small dip pool on the roof but 1 block away from the best beach.

Check out expedia.com. The Meridien and Sofitel are about $120 and $140 (or $130 and $140 if not w/e), including breakfast. They are both Copacabana beach - one of the best beaches in the world. Those rooms usually go for over $250 w/o breakfast.

Forget Ipanema beach prices, stay on Copacabana beach front (Luxor Regente) and take in the culture with the 10 minute walk to Ipanema area. Was just there for 2003 Carnival, the folks were great, very easy to get everywhere and anywhere quickly, by foot or taxi. Oh yeah, and they have the ever popular roof top pool with an awesome sunrise view!
