we went to blue bay in may of 1999. this was our first all inclusive and have since been to two others (sandals and palace resorts). blue bay is a good value. the rooms are basic but clean. there is really only 2 resturants. only one choice at breakfast and two choices at dinner. the resort is very spread out so plan to do a lot of walking up and down hill. there is a decent show nightly. side trips that are a must: arenal volcano, any canopy tour, and visit tamarindo beach. there are monkeys and lizards everywhere. there are shuttles to take you to and from your room but did not tend to be reliable. the pools are nice. one pool was for adults only. the beach is volanic so it is black and i did not see many people swimming in the ocean. beware that may is the rainy season but we did not see much rain during our trip.

Thanx to Holli for your response regarding the Blue Bay Papagayo...heard from another source that this property has since closed. Can't say for sure or not because some travel agents assure us that it's still open...oh well it looks as if we're thnking the D.R. now!<BR>Thanx again Holli!!

Highly recommend the Melia Conchal..900 acres, but they have jitneys that run every minutes. There is a semi-food plan which I highy recommend for their breakfasts, and I think three specialty restaurants. The rooms were really junior suites, the lovliest we've seen. Lots of animals on the property like the Howling Monkeys which make a pest of themselves near the pool tossing things at guests...lol Many great side trips from there. We did go to Tamarindo and checked out the place..surfers paradise.. For pictures and more info please write.
