Hi. I am seriously considering B de C for 4 or 5 nights next July. What other areas of CR are nearby that we could visit? We would love to return to the villa we rented in Ocotal, in Guanacuaste. Is that a logistical nightmare?
Do we have to fly into San Jose or is Liberia an option? Thanks.

Fly into SJO you would then fly in/out of the Osa. Yes that plus Ocotal would be a logistical nightmare.
Maybe Pto Jimenez would count as nearby. Osa is very isolated. You could combine it with somewhere closer to SJO where you would stay before or after flights to Osa.

A lot of people like to pair it with the Iguana Lodge if you're looking for someplace close. It's only about an hour flight back to SJO, so you can really go anywhere you want from there. Arenal would be a nice pairing and is only about three hours from SJO or if you want cushy, Manuel Antonio would be about three hours as well. Is the Peace Lodge your kind of place? Only about an hour from SJO, and it has the La Paz Waterfall Gardens where you can hand feed hummingbirds, hike to see five beautiful waterfalls, and go to Poas volcano.

volcanogirl, thanks as always for suggestions. was looking at maybe renting a house in dominical which seems nearby but will also look at iguana lodge or arenal area. i know when we were in ocotal in july that anyone we spoke to said it poured rain in the arenal area so i am concerned about that. peace lodge sounds amazing - need to see how much it costs for the 4 of us.

We've been to the Arenal area several times. Surprisingly the most rain we ever got was in December. We've also been in July and did get afternoon rains, but we were still able to go ahead with our plans. The Guanacaste area is your best bet if you want dry weather; Manuel Antonio and Dominical will also probably give you afternoon rains. The Peace Lodge is nice for about two nights I think. You can pretty much see and do everything in that time frame. The rooms are really over the top and indulgent with waterfall showers and Jacuzzis on the balcony. They also have an aviary, butterfly house, and nocturnal frog tour. I think it's kind of pricey, but not bad if you're only going for two nights.
