Trip Report I love my Antigua Guatemala Dentist at Clinicas De la Cruz

Jump to last reply

Over the last month I have written a few blogs about my experiences in Antigua Guatemala with my Dentist. This is a story that has to be told for those thinking that Guatemala lacks advanced Cosmetic Dentistry. I does not.

For those of you that missed the other posts. The short version of the story. I live in Canada part of the year and the other part in Antigua Guatemala. I broke a crown just a few weeks before our planned winter departure to Antigua. A quick stop at my family Dentist in Toronto oh, you have to go to a specialist this is a complicated Dental situation. And, you can expect to spend close to $6,000 to have this repaired. No.

My wife and I are settled in our home in Guatemala and I ask my local friends who they suggest can take care of this Dental problem. They suggest the best Dentist in Antigua is Dr Jorge H. De La Cruz.

I call the Dentists office and talk with Jorge’s son, we set up an appointment the next day. The son Jorge E. De La Cruz also a Dentist in this family practice is educated in the US and speaks perfect english. His father well not so great english. The father is 70 years old a foot note for this story.

The first appointment determined that the previous dentist in Canada that did the crown had not done a root cannel and I also had a impacted wisdom tooth. Thus I would need a root canal the old crown was no good etc etc etc. Total cost about $800 a fraction of what a US or Canadian Dentist would charge.

Thus the process began.

I hate Dentists and the anticipation of this event was not something I was not looking forward with any interest. The son Jorge E. De La Cruz did all the prep work, the root canal and preparation for an impression not for the crown.

The father Dr Jorge H. De La Cruz took over and prefers not to use screws in the root canal like most Dentists. He takes a mold of the root canal and sends this off to a Lab in Guatemala City that makes the Dental Post as they call it, that is glue into place versus screws and such to hold the post.

Then comes the making the mold for the crown after Dr Jorge H. De La Cruz had fitted the post in place.

You may be asking if you read this far did any this hurt. No not at all. I have to say the way I was treated and handled by all the staff was with care for myself and care for making the perfect crown.

At last after a month of visits that I have to say became fun if one thinks having a 70 year old Dentists hands in your month for hours fun! Today I went to the Dentists office to look at my new crown that will be glued in place in the morning.

Again pride in their craft. Dr Jorge H. De La Cruz sat me down and in his limited english and my limited spanish and with great pride he showed me all the pieces that have gone into to making the Perfect Dental Crown.

His work is outstanding and his Dental Assistant is very funny. A joy to work with all of them. You should consider the same.
