How do I get to Laguna Laguntara, Honduras to look for missing son?
I have a Son who is currently having an adventure by sailing his home built Indonesian Proa sailing canoe, alone, down the coast of Central and South America. He started in Veracruz, Mexico months ago, and about 2,000 miles later he is currently in Honduras, having left the island of Guanaja a couple of weeks ago. He is hopping down the coast, going ashore through the surf each night if he can't find a port of refuge. I have heard really bad things about the Mosquito Coast -- extreme poverty, pirates preying on yachtsmen, etc., so being a worrywart Dad, I do my part by wringing my hands.
Anyway, he has one of those SPOT devices which enables him to report his position via satellite, and he is been pretty good checking in regularly so we can follow his progress. He evidently went ashore through the surf last Friday, and checked in. The next day he activated the SPOT device to show him located a few miles from his landing place, deep in what appears from Google Earth to be a completed uninhabited swamp/jungle. He has not checked in since.
Being just a bit concerned, I lay awake nights picturing him in the hands of really desperate thugs who are stripping him of his stuff and leaving him in a ditch in the jungle. I know that is over the top, but I have an overactive imagination ---
If worse comes to worse, How do I begin to get to that really remote region of the world. I'll be starting in Seattle. The nearest airport appears to be a strip at Puerto Lanpera on the Laguna de Caratasca. The maps show no roads going to his last shown location, which is on the beach just north of the Laguna Laguntara. I can see no sign of habitation, except for a couple of huts a few miles west of his landing place. There is a mark, labeled "Claura" on the Google Earth Image, but I can see no town or village, or even a road leading there.
Any suggestions?
BTW, you can follow his blog at: http://grillabongquixotic.wordpress.com/ and/or follow the last week of his SPOT positions at: http://grillabongquixotic.wordpress.com/

Yeah, NoFly, shortly after I posted my rather panicky request above, I checked the map site again and there is a new SPOT signal from the place he originally landed. Perhaps he damaged the boat and needed to do repairs or something. Guess I won't be taking a trip to Honduras.
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my post.
I'm still going to wish Chris were on some other sort of adventure; one in which he had access to telephones or internet more frequently. From what I can see from Google Earth, he has a long way to sail before he is back in "civilization".
