How accessable is HOMO Milk in Puerto Vallarta?

My family of four is heading to Puerto Vallarta next week. Our daughter is only 14 months and she is still into drinking Homo Milk. While we are staying at the Melia Puerto Vallarta does anybody know if it is easy to purchase Homo Milk in PV or could you make a suggestion of what we could use to substitute it?

Assuming you mean "homogenized" milk - otherwise known as "whole Milk" - "ultra-pasteurized" milk is universally available in Mexico - whole (entire), low-fat (semi-descremada), skim (descremada). Very easy to find, even in small tiendas and convenience stores - BUT -

Don't look in the refrigerated section: it is just what it says "super-pasteurized" and stays "good" at room temperature until opened and is sold in 1 quart paper cartons stacked on the store shelves.

Plastic jugs of more familiar "pasteurized" milk familiar to gringos (usually with a familiar brand name as well) is becoming more and more available at large stores in some places, but usually we avoid it - it's pefectly safe and wholesome but (probably because of transportation times, low volume sales, and iffy en-route refrigeration) seems to have a shorter shelf-life once you get it "home." We have had better luck when buying this at high-volume large stores which probably get daily deliveries, and move a lot of product every day.

Some people insist that the ultra-pasteurized milk tastes slightly "cooked" which isn't surprising - given that it is "almost" cooked by being heated much higher and thus is effectively sterilized. I can't tell a difference. Our kids can't either and if they think they can, just decant the ultra pasteurized into a plastic jug... Preentation is everything.

Relax. Mexico is spite of some press is NOT a third world country. Any town of decent size will have clean homogenized milk including the box milk that does not need refrigeration until opened.
PV has virtually anything you can get at a typical supermarket in the US. Possibly some different brands/packaging but lots of choices.

Homogenized milk is nothing more than milk which has undergone a process to thoroughly mix the cream (butterfat) in with the rest of the milk. That is, there is not a layer of cream floating on top the rest of the milk. Almost all supmarket milk in the US is homogernized. Even 2% milk (which has a bit of fat) is homogenized. Even half and half is homogenized.

Pasturized milk is milk that has been quickly heated to a temperature that will kill off much of the bacteria. Most milk in the US is also pasturized.

I don't know what it means to be "into drinking homo" milk. Do you mean she has a dietary requirement to drink homogenized whole milk with an unreduced butterfat content? Or perhaps she just can't stand the taste of 2%? (I sure can understand that.) It is most likely that your hotel will serve her homogenized and pasturized milk. Or do you mean something different when you say "homo milk?"

Homogenized milk is readily available in most Super markets such as Mega or Soriana in the refrigerated section. Even the OXXO convenience stores carry it and is delivered almost daily in refrigerated trucks. Most of the time you can find 1/2 gallon containers that will be good for five days or more. Despite all of the negative press originating out of the US, Mexico is not a third world country. She is a member of the G-20 and has the 12th largest economy in the world and in places such as Puerto Vallarta you can find almost everything that you would find at home and more, you might have to hunt a little but it can be found. Have a great trip to Puerto Vallarta.
