Hotel in Panama City ~ 1 night

Hi,
I (solo female) will be traveling to Panama in January and will be staying the first night in Panama City. The only "must see" for me while I'm there is the Canal (don't really care about the night life scene). I will be flying out of the regional airport in the morning for David.

Can anyone suggest a low-moderate priced hotel?

Thanks!

I'd recommend La Estancia.

I stayed there two years ago. Not fancy, but clean, comfortable, friendly, and a great location. Try not to miss Casco Viejo when you're in Panama City -- fantastic old colonial heart of the city. Imagine the French Quarter in New Orleans without any of the tourist junk.

@johnny99 ~ La Estancia looks like a nice place but perhaps not the best option for such a short stay???... is it far from the canal and Allbrook Airport? I will only have about 1/2 a day (land at 11:30am and fly out early the next am) so I want to be close to the things I most want to see... I am debating between this hotel and the Country Inn Suites Canal (typical chain hotel... nice but perhaps not as much charm and more expensive).... thanks!

I stayed at La Estancia a few years ago also and highly recommend it. It is very close to Albrook!

Yes, just to confirm -- La Estancia us quite close to the domestic airport. I can't remember how far it was to Miraflores Locks (the Canal), but it's not too far of a cab ride at all.

My young daughter stayed at Dos Palmitos a few years ago. There was someone at the airport on her arrival , which was helpful since her flight was a late arrival, always a worry for solo female travelers when landing in an unfamiliar city. The B and B is close to the airport.

Dos Palmitos was genuinely helpful in emails prior to the visit and the staff continued to be helpful and friendly throughout the stay. The driver was "available" at certain times and helped with a ride to airport for the departure as well as a few other destinations.

My daughter liked the feel of staying in a residential neighborhood and there was a market nearby to pick up fruit etc.

Certainly worth considering.

@Johnny99 and Hamlet ~ thank you! Although I have not stayed yet just in my emails back and forth to their staff I think La Estancia was the perfect choice for me! I will post a trip report upon my return.

@Rivet ~ Dos Palmitos was unfortunately booked.

Happy, Healthy and Safe Holidays!
