Honeymoon in Belize?

Hi-
I am trying to plan a honeymoon for early July 2001 and was wondering if there are any resorts in Belize right on a beautiful beach. We are looking for some ecotourism excursions but want a great resort with excellent food. Cayo Espanto is really expensive but we are looking for something similar. Any recommendations?

Bring your bug spray!!! The area is very rough and underdeveloped, even the nicer island resorts. If you want romance go to Jamaica and stay at Sandals, or go to Playa Del Carmen (Mexico) and stay at Royal Hideaway. Great beaches down there ,south of Cancun and no crowds. Go topless if you want to, lots of Europeans love this area because it is very much like the mediterranian!! I think Belize is a little too far down on the same beautiful coast that you can enjoy in Playa del carmen or even the Tulum area. All inclusives include drinks, food and snorkeling!! Good Luck!

I've posted before about Belize. Do a search and you'll probably find other postings on this forum which will give you more information.

Basically we loved Belize, but it was hot! We were there in February 3 years ago and we were told it was unseasonably hot. I can imagine that July would be too much for me.

As I said, we loved the country, but the beaches are not special, even in Placencia which apparently has the best beaches. That's not to say that there's not a lot to do and see in Belize - we loved Ambergris Caye and San Ignacio in the interior. The people were also incredibly friendly - that really made our trip special.
July is not our hottest monthy. Avergae temps are 85 high and 72 low. Average rainfall is 4.59 inches. I'd take a look at both Mata Chica and Victoria House on San Pedro/Ambergris Caye and at Rum Point, Roberts Grove and LubaHati in Placencia, Jaguar Reef in Hopkins. All are lovely and on the beach. The hotels in Placencia and Hopkins are closer to the mainland and easy to find interesting and exciting day trips to the mainland jungles and ruins. Or split your time between a bwach location and one of thelovely riverside jungle lodges in the Cayo district. San Pedro isour most visited destination, with the largest selection of hotels, restaurants/bars and people.

Katie Valk

Lauren there are no beautiful beaches in Belize. We made this mistake and went to Belize in July two years ago. Too humid, too hot and sand flies were terrible. Be aware that Katie is a travel agent working for maya travel and she sales here services using this Forum and as result her suggestions are very subjective and self-serving. I agree with Susan that you should do search on this forum.

After reading Katie Valk's response, I checked both the high and the low temp on July 10 (chosen at random) for the past 3 years.

1999: high = 87.8 and low = 86.0
1998: high = 89.6 and low = 81.3
1997: high = 89.6 and low = 78.1

Unfortunately, they do not list humidity historically, but 2 out of the 3 years there was rain on that date.

If you are accustomed to and enjoy those temps and high humidity, continue planning a honeymoon in Belize during July.
If not, start researching another honeymoon destination
Here's a weather website you can use to check on historical weather temps AFTER you choose your destination city.

http://www.weatherunderground.com

Wishing you a long, happy, and healthy marriage!

Are you into mixing a little adventure with romance? I would encourage that you check our www.slickrock.com. I went on an adventure trip with them a couple of years ago and had a great time! Not only did we spend a few days in a variety of hotels and jungle camps in Belize, but the best was a few days on an island where we stayed in quaint bungaloes right on the beach and spent the days sea kayaking, snorkeling, etc. It was a great trip.
