We have a trip planned to northern Costa Rica, and will be managing the trip on our own. Our stay will be at Playa Hermosa for 5 nights and Lake Arenal for 3 days. We have a rental car arranged and are renting from people who own property in Costa Rica through VRBO.
We're looking for any advice you have to offer. Mostly we want to hire a naturalist to show us around the two areas--probably that will mean two different people...
We don't need a tour with a big bus or crowds of people, what we think we need is a local person who knows his or her stuff about the ecosystems, flora and fauna of Arenal and Monteverde, and any other natural areas we should not miss while were in these parts of Costa Rica. Someone who can tour the four of us for a half or whole day. What should something like that cost us?
Your suggestions are most welcome. An email for a real person or company who does this for a living would be FAB!
Thanks for your help.

We've used Zender Chacon through Sunset Tours, and he's amazing at spotting wildlife and a wonderful guy as well. We hired him for a morning birding/wildlife spotting hike out by Lake Arenal and had a great time. You can call Sunset Tours and request him. Desafio could probably provide someone as well.

We used Erick Guzman and he was fabulous. We were travelling with our friends and didn't have a car. He picked us up in Arenal and drove us to the Rio Celeste. See his website www.tarabatours.com
