Help with Hyatt Regency Cancun

Has anyone stayed here recently? I'm only finding old posts about this hotel and mixed reviews on trip advisor. We can use Hyatt points and I'd like to know if the resort is well maintained, friendly staff, nice rooms, etc. What are the food and alcohol prices like at the resort as well? Thanks.

I haven't stayed at Hyatt Regency in Cancun, but we stayed at Hyatt Cancun Caribe in Cancun about three years ago. It's an older property, but very well maintained. Nice pool area, and beautiful beach. I suspect a much nicer beach than at the Regency.

I have to admit we thought the restaurants prices were high, but there were loads of places within easy walking distance, so it wasn't an issue.

We only had drinks at the beach bar there, they weren't nearly as cheap as say the beach of Isla Mujeres, but the prices weren't out of line either.

You may already know this, but there really is No beach at the Hyatt Regency (the beach has eroded completely in this spot). Which is not good for a town known for its beaches!

There has never really been a usable beach at the Hyatt Regency--the Hyatt Caribe is much better located on a very nice beach.

Thanks for the replies. I do know about the beach but we spend our time at the pool and just look at the ocean with a drink in our hand. My main concern is that the property is nice and the pool exceptional.

The Caribe would definitely be a better choice...

Just stayed at the Hyatt Cancun Caribe for a week in mid-March. It's a fine beach hotel, with typical Hyatt rooms and an excellent pool area. Plus, the location is great -- in the middle of things, not too far north, not too far south. Beautiful beach as well, of course. Avoid the other Hyatt for the reasons stated plus it's not-so-good location.

Okay, I've changed the hotel to the Caribe. Now what is the best way to get to the hotel, taxi? We've never been to Cancun, do I have to haggle with the driver over price or is there shuttle service?

Taxi pickups at the airport are prohibited. You can buy a van ticket as you leave the terminal for about $9 per person, but it leaves when the van is full, usually not too long. We prefer Cancun Valet, a private shuttle service that is available for up to ten people for a fixed price of about $65 round-trip. Search for Cancun-valet on the web!

good thing you changed your mind and went with The Caribe because you cant even see the ocean from the pool area at the Hyatt Regency.

I would check w/ the hotel directly; many of the hotels provide their own transportation, which can be more expensive, but is also very convenient...

If you need anything at the Hyatt Cancun Caribe, speak with concierge Elizabeth Marin. She's wonderful and very capable.

I was in Cancun in mid-March for business and she helped with a difficult customs issue. Please say hello to Elizabeth from her friends from New York with customs issues.

Enjoy!
