Help Planning Last Minute Trip from SJO

Hi All. My husband and I have a last minute work trip to San Jose in mid-August. Since we have free flights to San Jose, why not build on a personal vacation?? And this is where we are stuck. We have previously done a trip to the Guanacaste area and loved it, but we would like to try something new. The Osa Peninsula sounds fantastic, but I'm concerned about going there in the rainy season. Our other thought is to go to Manuel Antonio and then pair it with a visit to somewhere else (Montezuma? Playa Carillo?).

We like to spend our vacations being active - we are interested in hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, fishing - with a little bit of beach time. We have been zip lining in Costa Rica before so that is not a priority. Any suggestions for locations that meet these criteria plus are fairly easy to access from San Jose?
