Help needed - Riviera Maya or Puerto Plata in Feb

Hi
My husband and I will be celebrating our (belated) 10th Wedding Anniversary in February and can't decide whether to travel to the Riviera Maya in Mexico or Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic so we desperately need some advice! We're both in our fifties and would like an all inclusive resort.
Thanks
Jemma

I prefer Mexico, but the Riviera Maya has had a real problem with seaweed since last fall and it is still going on. Who knows what will happen by February though.
It would help if you told us more about what you are looking for. What is important to you...pools, beach, entertainment, adults only, etc.?

If you want resort recommendations it would also help to know your budget.

I'd suggest Mexico. Mostly because it seems most people who go to Puerto Plata just stay only in their AI resort. While in Mexico people go out and about and tour the area.

(Puerto Vallarta is my personal favorite place, but it's on the Pacific side of Mexico.)

it,s a no brainer... i have been to both places and can assure you that you will get so much more in the Riviera Maya region than Puerto Plata. There is absolutely no comparison wether it be on culture, food, nightlife, shopping, exploring, restaurants, hotels etc ...
