Help! 10 days in argentina - where to begin?
My best friend and I are going to Argentina in November and don't know where to begin our planning!
We've spoken with a lot of different people, who all tell us different things. I know that Buenos Aires is a big city, but how much time do you really recommend us staying?
About us: 2 26 year old single, adventurous females. We've travelled all over - Europe, Central America, Middle East, Asia...but neither of us have been to S.A. We like good dining, good sight seeing, people watching, etc. Basically a good combination of touristy education and FUN!
We only have 10 days (including travel from NY and Chicago) and want to see more than just Buenos Aires.
What do you recommend we do? Where should we start? What major stops should we do? Patagonia is a must, but how long do we stay? Do we fly? Take a bus? Is there a train?
HELP!!!

Hi, I'm 32 and originally from Buenos Aires although I now live in the US.
BA is a gorgeous city; it's going to be hot, so take light clothes. There are plenty of restaurants (if you tell me what kind of foods you like, I can give you the name of a few). On nightlife, the clubbing scene is great and there are some great bars (Gran Danzon is my favorite). Also, Argentine men are VERY attractive.
Several neighborhoods to see in BA: Palermo (lots of young designers' stores), Recoleta (super chic), San Telmo (a bit run down, but has a nice market on Sundays). Three days in BA should suffice.
I guess you could do a couple of days at the glacier. Also worth visiting are the Iguazu falls in the north of the country, although it might be a bit to hot at that time f the year.

I would plan to fly to any destinations you decide to go to. Distances are really far in Argentina and with only 10 days I wouldn't want to spend time on a bus.
As anne suggested if you're into waterfalls, Iguazu Falls is spectacular. It's about an hour by air and 2 days and 1-2 nights would be fine for exploring the area. We were there in Dec and it was HOT, but you could always cool off by splashing water on yourself.
A fun thing to do is go to an estancia outside BA. You can go for a day or spend a night at one of the many estancias in the area.
I loved BA and would spend at least 4-5 days there. It's a huge city and much to see and do. We're planning another trip back and even though we spent over a week there last time, we'll still spend at least 4-5 days in BA. We also want to visit Salta in the NW and the lake country. Haven't been to either, but both areas sound beautiful. If u do a search on on this board on any of the suggestions made, you'll find lots of good information about the different places to visit in AR. Have a great trip.

It is a pity to visit a huge country in such a short time! But do not miss the NW, Salta and Jujuy area, at least 4 days to see the most amazing sceneries, taste the best wines, and eat the best food!

I agree with yestravel. A visit to an estancia is a very worthwhile experience and a lot of fun. It gets you out of the "big city".
Do not miss a chance to visit Iguazú Falls. It is one of the natural wonders of the world. Two nights here is best. Be prepared for heat and humidity (probably mosquitos too), but don't let that prevent you from coming.
As to where to begin your planning, this forum is a very good first step. When you think you have a preliminary itinerary, post it here and get comments and feedback. When you are ready to implement your plans, get a good Buenos Aires travel agent to put all the pieces together.
