Guide Recommendation for Peru

We returned from Peru last week and wanted to recommend David Choque as a guide. We got his name off this board and were extremely pleased with his services. We contacted him via email [email protected] and made all our arrangements. David did call us once to chat and ask about some preferences, but most of the planning was done over email. David is very knowledgable and extremely easy to be around. We generally travel independently so we were not sure how it would work with a private guide, but we thought David was great. Having never used a private guide before I can't comment on his prices, they seemed reasonable for what we did. He picks u up in a nice, comfortable van and provided fabulous information throughout our various tours. He adjusts his pace to what appears to fit u best. I'd be happy to answer any quesitons.

I second the recommendation for David Choque - we had a great time with him in January/06. He did all our travel arrangements (with lots of joint discussions) for our time in Cusco, Ollanta, AC and Lake Titicaca - we arranged only the air portion (and meals, of course).

In addition to his email in the above post his web site is

And here's a link to our blog with photos and information on our itinerary

Ditto for the expresions above regarding David Choque. We spent 6 days in the Cusco Region and we were totally satisfied with all the places recommended and visited and specially, his company. If you want to see some of the photos taken during this trip go to. www.gtorres185.photosite.com

We're planning on travelling to Peru in July 2007 for 1 month with our 2 children, 12 & 10. We're getting mixed messages about how safe it is to take our children there. We are also independent travellers, but as we've been advised not to rent a car and drive aound ourselves and we don't want to travel by bus or keep hopping on planes, we took your advice and contacted david to plan a trip for us.

Any recommendations/suggestions, taking into account that we're taking 2 kids with us? Any chance to e-mail you directly? Thanks.

I didn't travel with children so not sure I would be much help. We were in Peru not during school vacations and we did not see many families traveling with children, but I would attribute that to the time we were there. I know David has done tours with groups of all ages. I would feel confident with his recommendations based on his understaning of what your interests might be. Search for a thread with the title "Our Peru trip-guide recommendation and trip comments"
This person did a trip with David and her 12 year old son. U might start a new thread asking about traveling to Peru with children. Good luck
