Guide for Manuel Antonio NP?

Can anyone recommend a specific person...or NOT recommend a specific person, as a guide at Manuel Antonio? ? Do you hire someone just outside or inside the park? Are the guides affilated with the park, "certified" etc? Are advance reservations necessary? Are you expected to have your own binoculars?
This would be approx'lly December 17, so I'm thinking the area might have more tourists (thus need for advance reservation).
Thank you!!!!

The guides usually hang out right outside the park and you can pick who you like. The best prices are found outside the park and they all have scopes. Your own personal binoculars would be nice for this and the rest of your vacation. have fun

Greenfieldhunter, thanks so much for the response!
Also---I've read that you walk through sometimes waist deep water to get to the MA Park enrance. True?? (Trip is in Decembe.r)
Thanks again for any and all replies!!

A person can wade through the water, or pay a small fee to the locals who will take you by raft across.

Of course it depends on the tide that day, but it's only 100 colones for the local to take you across in their boat. You exit the park in another location, so this is a concern for "one way" only. Services are limited within the park so don't forget to bring water/energy bar etc. with you.

Our MA guide was Fernando, very personable and knowledgeable. It's amazing what they can see...such as a tiny grasshopper! We were there in Aug & booked Fernando the day before we wanted to do our hike. The hike started at 8:00am. As another poster said, the guides hang around at the entrance to the park. The cost is $20PP or if you have a group of 5, $15PP. You are not expected to have your own binoculars. The guides let you use their scopes.
