Here's a snip from a news story published in the papers of Costa Rica today:
"The rate of occupation in Costa Rican hotels for the first quarter this year will be 85 percent to 95 percent, an average 15 percent more than in the same period last year.
Tourism sector representatives expect this high season to be the strongest in history.
A survey of hotels at major destinations, such as Guanacaste and La Fortuna - the Arenal Volcano area -, show that reservations through March are already 80 percent of the available rooms...."
Made those reservations yet? Better get a move on - or better yet, come in the "rainy" season, which doesn't really means much more rain, but does mean less tourists, cheaper prices, and a greener environment. Personally, I much prefer traveling in Costa Rica in the "green season" (late-May through mid-November).

Green season might be busy this year too! I'm making my green season reservations, and the first 2 places I e-mailed (and telephoned) in Monteverde were already full for the days I wanted. I'm still trying to get reservations for Monteverde, I telephoned a third place and they said they'd e-mail me a form to fill out and I have to fax them the form before my reservations can be confirmed. I did get reservations for Arenal at my first choice place, though.
Since it appears we're all headed for Costa Rica in record numbers, let's remember to do our part to leave the country as beautiful as it was when we arrived...What's that saying campers use? Take nothing with you, leave nothing behind?
