Golden Crown Paradise Spa? Omni Cancun? Le Meridien? help...

Hi,

If you have visited any of the above RECENTLY - will you give some feedback. Plan on going Mid-November or Mid-December, myself (29) and boyfriend (37).
We have been to Playa del Carmen, and are looking at Cancun amongst others.

Things that are a priority to me:

1. Best beach
2. NO kids - or at least fewer, and in controlled environment
3. No bugs inside/outside, clean rooms/property
4. Food/drinks quality
5. Service
6. Pool
7. Atmosphere - not too rowdy but not starched-collar stuffy either

Much obliged,

N.

LeMeridien is in an entirely other class than the other 2 hotels you mention, it's much nicer. It has a beautiful beach front and pools.
Have not been inside but drove by and noticed the Golden Crown last week, and it didn't look too great to me...a little rundown on the outside.

Here is my take on your priority list:

1. All three hotels have great beaches (the Omni and Le Meridian are in close proximity)

2. Golden Crown is the only one of the 3 hotels you listed that is adults only - so you are guaranteed to have NO kids there. Have not been to Le Meridian before so can't speak to the kid situation there. Have been to the Omni during late fall and there are not many kids there, although there are some. They have plenty of pools and space to find a quiet spot.

3. Bugs do not seem to be much of a problem inside the hotel zone, at least that's been my experience.

4. Have had friends who stayed at Golden Crown who said the food was decent and the drinks a little watered down. GC is an all inclusive. Again, I have not been to Le Meredian but would expect their food and drink quality to be high. The Omni (where I have stayed on 3 different occasions)has excellent food and drink quality. Only one of their restaurants serves buffet, the rest are ala carte. You can order ala carte at the buffet restaurant as well for any meal. They serve top shelf brand liquor and have bottled beer.

5. Service at Omni and Golden Crown is excellent.

6. All three have beautiful pool areas.

7. The Omni and Golden Crown both have a good activity staff that keeps things lively but not so lively that you can't find a quiet place to just relax. I would think Le Meredian would be similar.

As usual great advice by Mandy. Having stayed at Golden CPC twice I can assure you the rooms are not run down even if the hotel is architechturally bland. The drinks may be watered down UNLESS you make friend with the staff who are excellent. Especially Fonzy at the pool bar. Christy who runs drinks is also very helpful and I would suggest introducing yourselves and telling them you know us.

NO kids is wonderful and the oceanside rooms are great. I would suggest an upgrade to CLUB level fifth floor for the best! Food is good if not great and the location is on of the best, being between the Ritz and LeMeridien. I have photos and other stuff if you like. We also recently stayed at the OMNI but I'll save my comments for later.

another great resource to compare hotels is tripadvisor.com. The user reviews generally give you a good overall feel for a hotel.

In my opinion, Le Meridien is the best. Others are not in the same class.
