I love PV and visit often but never do formal activities or tours myself so can't help more than that.

suze, any good place/restaurant for some dancing ? It's just me and my husband and no kids So, want to hit some (safe) places to do meringue or zumba in the night..

I am also looking for ATV and zip lining combo tour, if you can recommend any.

I've never been but hear only good things about the restaurant/bar downtown called 'La Bodeguita del Medio' for live Cuban and salsa music.

The only Zumba I know of is regular fitness classes. They are at both Yoga Vallarta and the Fit Club (on the southside). Look for Efren. Also I've read there is/was a free 8am morning class in the park in front of Hotel Eloisa.

Not for dancing, but I love the bar at The River Cafe in the evenings. There's usually a live jazz duo and it's an incredibly romantic setting.

Every place around central PV is "safe" to go to. You don't need to worry about that.

La Palapa down on Los Muertos (south-side beach) is a very nice restaurant with a bar that has live music in the evenings. Again I'm not sure if there's dancing, but it's an incredibly gorgeous setting open-air and right on the beach.

shuba_r, Your resort is way the other side of town from where I stay and the places I'm mentioning. Hopefully someone more familiar with the hotel zone will chime in and give you other suggestions closer and a bit more convenient to your location.

Every Sunday
Milonga/Salsa Sunset Dance Party. A milonga is a social dance party comprised of tandas (sets of music) alternating tango, tango vals and milonga (the fast tango). This milonga will mix sets of salsa, merengue, samba and cumbia throughout the milonga playlist. Free entrance, includes a free class. 5pm - 8pm Hotel Rosita at the north end of the Malecón.

Also, we are not planning to rent a car.. Is it easy to get around in a cab and safe late night ?

Yes it is easy to get around by bus or cab (I used cabs and stayed at Villa del Palmar, it is a very nice place). Cannot comment about late at night since I go to sleep early, but a couple I met down by the pool were out clubbing until 3am and had a great time.

Yes it is easy to get around in a cab (or even local bus during the day) and yes it is safe late at night. Just use normal common sense and you will be fine.

The bus system is extensive, 6.5 pesos anywhere in town - no transfers, the only problem is they stop normal service around 10:30pm.

We just got home last night from PV and had a blast.

For the zipline tour, we used Los Veranos and loved it! I could have done it again, it was so much fun. The guides are so good and really funny. Bring money though, if you want to purchase photos or the dvd or if you want to get something to eat or just a beer afterward.

We also did a food tour one day. It was www.vallartafoodtours.com and again we had a great time. Full disclosure here though as it is a relative that runs it. We had never been though and really enjoyed it and we learned a lot not just about the foods but about the city and some of the sights. It is a 3 hour tour and covers about 1.5 miles.

There's a new-ish walking tour that gets great comments recently. Cabron do you have the lady's name????

mms, we are interested in the food tour too. But worried about our diet since my hubby is vegetarian and I don't eat a lot of red meats and fancy sea foods etc. Do you think it's still worth it ?

shubha_r--One of the ladies in our group was vegetarian and they accommodated her just fine. This is not a fancy tour, so no worries with that. When you reserve, just let them know and they will work with you. Definitely worth it! I took friends a few days later to most of the places and they loved it.

Afraid I don't know her name, but I believe it's called Vallarta Eats.
