Getting to and away from Atitlan

Jump to last reply

I did a search and couldn't come up with the answers I was looking for. I'm leaving for Guat. in less than two weeks and I'm still roughing out my itinerary. I am not sure how I should plan my time at Atitlan, mainly because I'm not clear on how the boat schedule works.

Basically, I plan to leave Antigua on a Sunday and shuttle to Chi-Chi for the market, then to Panajachel in the afternoon. How late do the boats run to the other villages? My guidebook says 4:00-4:30; is that accurate? Seems early. My shuttle arrives right about then and I don't want to get stuck paying for a reservation if I can't get over to the hotel.

After two nights in Atitlan, I plan to head to Guat. City and catch an afternnon flight to Flores. If I stay in San Marcos or one of the other villages, will I be able to catch an early morning boat to Panajachel in time for a 9:00 shuttle departure? Or do the boats not run that early?
