Four Seasons @ Punta Mita
Dear Fellow Travellers,
My family is planning a week + vacation to Mexico this summer during the month of June. After much research, I think the Four Seasons would be a nice way to enjoy the Mexican culture and relax at the same time. Any thoughts or comments from experienced travellers of this region would be much appreciated!
--Kali

It is a gorgeous property, but you really have to make an effort to experience Mexican culture from this resort. It is isolated from the small towns nearby, most guests are gringos, the food is good, but "resorty" and VERY expensive!! New York prices. You can eat so cheaply in Mexico and get great, fresh local food, there is no need to pay this much. You are aware at all times that you are at a 4 Seasons and could be anywhere in the world.

The beach is good, pool area with infinity pool spectacular, open air palapa lobby great design. It is a beautiful place with great service, but you will feel immersed in or surrounded by local flavor.

Extremely pricey! Get a copy of the Pacific Mexico Handbook by B. Whipperman and choose from several real Mexican villages.

adios!

[email protected] om
www.choice1.com/villamontana.htm

kali,
First, June is a pretty hot and humid time to visit the Puerto Vallarta area. The rainy season usually starts mid june and it typically rains every day for part of the day and is hot and very humid. That's not to say that you shouldnt go in June, but be aware that it is the off season.
I agree with the other posts. I've been to the 4 seasons and while it is a very nice elegant hotel, it is a good one hour drive from Puerto Vallarta and since the surrounding area is being developed by one big corporation, there are no mexican villages anywhere nearby. You might be interested to know that the original village of Punta Mita was bought out and moved to its present site, about 15 miles away so that the 4 seasons could be built.
If you really want the resort experience (and I'm not sure why you would), then try the Camino Real or the Sheraton Buganvillas or one of the other big hotels in P.V. I would avoid the all inclusive wasteland in Nuevo Vallarta. It's too far from Puerto Vallarta and there is no mexican culture there either.

if i could afford it, i would be at the seasons in a heartbeat. celebs have found it, why not you. first cabin all the way and your privacy is guaranteed by the guard with the uzi at the gate. many bottome feeders get turned away each day trying to get a peek. but if you like bad sidewalks, cobble stone streets along with the garbage as well as timeshare hawkers on the malecon, come visit.
