I am a Tam frequent flyer from Sao Paulo.
In my opinion it is a very good and safe company. I flew TAM 33 times, mainly between Sao Paulo and Rio.

Paulo

I'm also a TAM and AA frequent flyer and can tell you that TAM is 10 times better than AA, talking about service, aircrafts and pontuality.

Kevin,
I'm glad you asked the question. I recently flew TAM 6 times throughout Brazil and I think they are the best small airline I have ever flown. I was so impressed that I wrote a letter to their company in Miami, something I have never done with another company. They have grasped that in a tight market they make "excellence in service" their standard. Their slogan is that between their wings everyone receives Red Carpet service. In fact, within the airport, and on the plane, and on the tarmac they use red carpets....sort of gimmicky but an effective marketing tool. And they are following through with it! Every hair in place, every shirt or suit is prefectly pressed, every mannerism discrete, their portuguese is perfect. What ever the customer wants, it is their pleasure. Everyone looks like they've gone through some sort of finishing school or training program. I can't over emphasize this point: every detail towards appearance, mannerism, and service was, without exception, studied and perfect. Listen up all you airline execs out there.....this airline will be a major player in the not so distant future.

It is always good to know that TAM planes have crashed .... one went down a few years ago when the pilot reversed the engines at take-off. He did avoid a school though .... Then there was a second case of a home made bomb that blasted but then this could happen to any airline.

But I believe TAM is the only airline seriously administered in Brasil and that is actually turning a profit in recent years. I would definitely fly TAM. Avoid by all means VASP.

VASP is just as bad as any African airline.

Happy flying

Avoid TAM. They predominantly fly the Fokker 100 airplane, that has project errors (on sept. 15th, a piece from one turbin reached and killed a passanger during the flight. Prefer the new company GOL, much cheaper and they only fly with with Boeing 737-700 the most safe and modern jet.
