flying over ambergris caye

Hope you can help. I am on a cruise this June and trying to nail some of the plkaces to vist on the stop offs in Cozumel (possibly Nachi Cocom); Costa Maya (possibly Maya Chan Beach) Roatan (not sure) and Belize and thinking of the rather costly flight over the Ambergris Caye. Should we do it or save our money and do a water taxi there? I might also post this on the Cruise Forum. Many thanks.

Are you talking about flying from Belize City over to Ambergris? I'm not sure that's what you mean. If so, we did it and thought it was great. The flight is only about 15 minutes long. If it's in your budget, to me it's definitely worth it because you can get there so quickly. If you have a chance, the snorkeling at Hol Chan is amazing.

There are two domestic airlines in Belize. Tropic Air and Maya Island Air. Both are safe and reliable. They fly the same type of planes, 12 passenger (or there about) Cessna's.

Grab a cab to the Municipal airport in Belize City and off you go. The flights are pretty much hourly.

If you want to do the trip for scenic beauty, fly because you won't see much from a boat except water. Flying is also a lot faster than a boat, so you can spend some time on the caye and fly back. Or fly one way, boat the other.

Thank you so much. So it sounds a safe bet to do it independent of the ship?
