A group of us are going to Puero Vallarta in April and we are thinking about doing a fishing trip. I would welcome any information.

It's a long way to where the real fishing starts out of PV-it imperative that you have a boat and crew that are honest and capable.
Two I can suggest are the Yolaray http://yolaray.8m.com/page5.html
and
http://www.charterdreams.com/
Neither are cheap but if it's results you want you'll have to pay.
If it's a boat ride on a scow/a bad taste in your mouth go cheap/book with your hotel.
Also-at all costs avoid a character named John Gabruk and any incarnation of 'Master Baiters Sportfishing'.
Gabruk has a long history of dishonest dealings and outright fraud to his credit.
