I would take kids that age to Hawaii before any of the Mexican towns. Cabo is typical Mexico--not too nice. Many vendors bugging you to buy stuff/go on tours constantly. The beaches are not that swimmable--pretty rough. More of a party town for 20-35 year old crowd. Just my 2 cents...

I would choose Puerta Vallarta over Cabo for family vacation. Definitely a more family orientated vacation destination than Cabo. I agree with the above posts many of the beaches in Cabo are not swimmable though the scenery is quite stunning the town is rough and party hearty. Puerta Vallarta does not have strip bars and adult entertainment right in your face as in Cabo. Something to keep in mind when traveling with children.

A very nice family-oriented vacation resort area is Zihuatanejo & Ixtapa on Mexico's Pacific Coast about 140 miles north of Acapulco.

A great beach for kids to go snorkeling is Playa Las Gatas.

Check us out!

www.zihuatanejo.net

Warm saludos from Zihuatanejo,

Roberto

Bay of Tenacatita: www.lamanzanillamexico.bizland.com/lamrentals. If you like to kayak, hike, bike, swim, snorkel, fish, and bird watch. Real Mexico!
