I've been reading some negative reviews about Europcar. I reserved an SUV through a travel agent at a very good price. If anyone has any recent experience with them I'd really appreciate it!
Europcar Liberia airport ok?

"a very good price"
Are you fully aware of the FINAL price you will have to pay for your vehicle (and, did you get it all in writing)? The car can seem very reasonable, then you find yourself at the counter being informed of two forms of mandatory insurance coverage, etc., that can add $30/day or more to your bill.
Check with your travel agent, make sure that you have coverage through your major credit card for collision (then you are off the hook for that insurance, and only have to pay the liability). You will have to pay at least liability; make sure that you know that cost in advance. There WILL be a deposit taken on your credit card (sometimes they post a charge, sometimes they just have the card number in case).
If you have your paperwork, proof of collision coverage (downloadable from most credit card sites; they'll direct you to it if you just ask via phone), check/take photos of the car when you pick it up (note ANY issues), you should be ok. It's not the nightmare some say it is, or dishonest; you just have to be an informed consumer.
But, if you've paid a travel agent, they should be happy to inform you of ALL fees and costs, and should have informed you about any additional fees other than the daily rental price.
p.s. The last time we used Europcar, it was SJO, not LIR. They brought the car to the hotel (no extra charge) when they said they would, sat down and inspected all paperwork with us, walked us through the notation of dings, etc., and we had no problem at all.
Thanks Sylvia,
thanks for all the info.- insurance is all clear in writing. the issues I've read are the car that's been reserved has not been available at time of pick up. just wondering if anyone has had experience with this at LIR office?
I would suggest calling the office and talking to someone in person (or having your travel agent do it)a day or so in advance to make sure the car you reserved is there for you.
call, please call! ask for a total price including taxes and insurance!
LuisS, thanks, but our trip is long over. We ended up switching to Dollar and had a very good experience and a good price.
