Entertaining young children in Tulum/Akumal

We are traveling in three weeks with children ages 3 and 5. We would like to visit Xel-Ha or Xcaret one day and seeking advice on which is more age appropriate for our children. In our previous visit we loved our trip to the Crococun zoo, and might go again on this trip. Are there any other activities that come recommended for these ages? Of course there will be lots of beach time, cenotes and exploring ruins.

Take them to the children's library, site has their hours listed, they also have a wish list if you want to bring supplies (of course money is also always welcome as well).
Have only been to Xel-Ha and it is mainly about snorkeling. It is also expensive at $89 for adults. Maybe take them to Yal-Ku Lagoon instead, admission is 200 pesos.

XCARET is more appropriate for those ages.

Punta Laguna monkey park near Coba ruins. You can bike or be pedaled in a pedicab around the ruins. There is a pyramid to climb, with a stout rope to help. There are alligators to see in the lake across from the parking lot.
You could take a boat ride into the Sian Ka'an biosphere to see manatees, birds, Maya structures and float a Maya-dug canal (instead of an amusement park version).
Snorkle with huge turtles and rays in Akumal. When you rent gear and go with a guide, they have foam kick boards available in addition to life jackets, in case one of the kids needs extra buoyancy or gets tired,

Thank you for the great ideas. We will definitely check out the akumal children's library. We did not get a chance to snorkel in akumal on our last trip either so will definitely be renting the kick boards for my youngest and give that a try. We did spend one day in Coba on our last trip and loved the ruins. Does anyone have any feedback on the Aktun Chen eco park? I wasn't able to find a price online for just the park. Everything I found included a transportation and tour of tulum ruins. I thought maybe my kids would like that and perhaps not as pricey as xel ha and xcaret as it seems to be quite a bit smaller.

Not sure which part of Aktun Chen you are interested in, but here is a link from their site about the cave tour:

I have not been other than driving past, but it is aways off the highway, maybe a mile or so, so consider taking a taxi to the entrance. Sounds a bit tough for kids that age but I may be wrong.
