Ecuador Question

I will be in Quito,Ecuador on All Souls Day (Friday Nov. 2nd) Will restaurants, shops etc. be closed? Is it a national holiday? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't remember anything being closed. It's a fun day to be there. People were selling guaguas de pan (bread babies literally - breads made up to look like people) that people then used to decorate graves.

Can anyone else give me their opinion. I have heard mixed messages. I have limited time in Quito and unfortunately it is on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd (All Souls Day, All Saints Day and Cuenca Independence Day) Will everything be closed that weekend? I'm afraid that I will have major limitations regarding restaurants, shopping and sight seeing. Does anyone know if the market in Otvaco (sp?) will be running on November 2nd which is either AlL Souls/Saints Day or will it be closed for the holiday? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the dates fixed for your time in Quito, then does it follow that you already know where you're staying? Why not E-mail that place and ask?
