Darien Panama

I visited Darien in Panama, and I have to say that it is a very special place to visit, is a unique experience to try in Central America, I found a french tour operator wich a I did my trip, for 5 days, one of the best experience was stay a night in a Embera Comunity , they are the indegenous of this area, the experience was great.. We did hiking in the forest, and that day we find a very intereristic insect like a criket, but nobody never see that kind of criked before, even the people of the place, we visit some spanish fort from the spanish colonization that are still there. The people of the operpator did a very good job, and also my trip was very safe the whole time. I suggest to go to Darien and explore a unique experience.

Amy,

I would also like to know your tour operator.

I also had a great experience visiting an Embera community but we did not stay the night. We hiked through the jungle and were lucky enough to spot a harpy eagle.

Ancon Expeditions offers trips to Darien, though they don't come cheap. We went with them for 4 nights. You fly on small plane from PC directly to Cana Station - in the middle of the Darien. They have a rustic bunk house with several rooms and shared bath/shower. Also a dining/living/kitchen building with a porch. And some housing for staff. And that's it! The nearest town is a 13 hour walk - no roads in. Makes for a fabulous jungle experience. You'll have a great guide with you and do 2 hikes per day. ... We loved our trip.

Hello everyone,
The Filo de Tallo lodge and Cana are two complete diferent experiences.
Cana Field Station is a unique place that can be only reached by a charter flight, there are no regular flights to that area.
Filo del Tallo Lodge is also unique but on a different way, the location is not as pristine as Cana, you can fly to La Palma on a regular flight and then go by river to the lodge, or drive to Meteti and then by river.
Another difference is that the guide on Cana will be a good bilingual naturalist guide.
When you take this things into consideration, Cana is more expensive for a reason.
Other option is Chucanti or la Marea. Sendero Panama is another good outfitter that is worth checking, their guides are experience on Darien, both Cana and Filo de Tallo.
Enjoy the Darien

Mmmmmm Ancon Expeditions of Panama offers a Darien Treck, they are an old reputable company with many years in Panama.

I dont know of any other good operator that does trekking in Darien, be aware that you need a trusty guide for trekking that area.
