Costa Rica - two weeks with golf

My husband and I plan to spend the month of February in Costa Rica. The first two weeks we're planning on spanish immersion at CPI Heredia (he's fluent - I'm not). Then we want to spend 2 weeks vacationing (with car) -- sightseeing, beach, pool, sit with locals at cafes and chat -- and golf (willing to drive to golf). We probably want the Pacific side. Any suggestions of what towns/cities to look at? Any thoughts for condo/villa (with pool) rentals or neat hotels? Someone suggested Jaco -- any thoughts? Thanks.

Jaco has some nice outlying areas I stay at

www.hotelvillacaletas.com a lot but the town itself

is pretty dodgy druggy fair amount of sex tourism.

Guanacaste lots better choice for upscale...

Jaco has kind of a seedy reputation, so if you decide to stay there, make sure you do some thorough research.

Thanks all. You pretty much confirm what everyone says about Jaco. Any suggestions for Guanacaste that are nice and not a fortune? We would be happy to rent a villa or condo as well. Main idea is nice, safe but not totally touristy -- especially since we speak the language. Your ideas appreciated.

Okay, so based on all the comments, we've decided to stay instead in Guanacaste area -- any suggestions? Would love ocean view (even if on hillsides). Thanks.
