According to the Tico Times (www.ticotimes.net), the police broke up the strike a couple of days ago, peacefully. But today's edition had an article about some other groups protesting and blocking part of the roads. I scanned through it and don't remember much detail. Seems like most of it was focused in San Jose itself rather than the outlying areas.

Keep checking with www.amcostarica.com also. With any luck, it will be history by the time you get there.
The situation seems to be changing all the time. I read where they are now not blockading, but rather forming lines of 10-15 trucks and driving very, very slowly on many of the main routes to the coast and the central valley.
As long as you keep informed and in touch with your hotel, you should be fine.

trevor: ive been following the protest since my mom told me about it. the trucks were removed. but sadly it wasnt all that peaceful. tear gas was used, and police broke windows to wake up the truckers, where all they had to do was knock on the door They had a march yesterday with several thousand people. and it doesnt seem to just be truckers anymore. teachers and hospital employees have somewhat joined in, but i think they are going back to work...it seems like the whole country is rebelling it was so nice and peaceful when i was there. the only roads blocked recently, were yesterday, by humans protesting in the metropolitan area of San Jose, so I think you will most likely be fine.
