Costa Rica trip planning

Hi folks,
Starting the planning for a trip to CR in Mar/02. Wondering about weather then (ie. is it rainy season?) and any thoughts on which part of the island to stay on would be appreciated. Will want to stay in one location and make day trips without too much driving. Snorkeling and hiking are definite musts. Thanks for the help!

What part of what island?
Costa Rica is not an island.
March is still considered part of the 'dry' season.

Barb we went several Octobers ago.THat was at the end of the rainy season.I can't remember exactly when the dry season starts and ends(we looked it up it the Fodors tour book). Thats why we stayed in the city of Tamarinda, less rain. We stayed at the Hotel Tamarinda which is right on the beach. Stayed in a first floor room which is steps away from the beach. The rooms weren't the best but I loved it. It was one of my favorite vacations. We were able to do several day trips from this location.White water rafting, volcanoe trips etc. Have fun

The above poster should have said, Tamarindo (not Tamarinda). It's a good beach town with lots of surfers, but as someone else has said, if your looking for snorkling, Costa Rica is not the place for you. If you want excellent hiking, rainforest, rafting and wildlife, then CR is it!

Forgot to say, March is indeed the dry season. It will be warm (very) and dry.

Thanks and oops! I didn't mean to say island - have other destinations on the brain! I appreciate the replies and the fact that snorkeling is not the thing to do there. Will seek out other places for this trip.
