Costa Rica Resort on Beach

We've been to Costa Rica in 2007 and loved it. We went to Arenal, Monteverde and ManoloAntonio...zip line, white water rafting, etc. We would like to go back and do more of an RandR type of vacation.
What is the Hotel Capitan Suizo like. Is it directly on the beach? Or are there any other "upscale" recommendations ....my guide book is from 2007 and might be a little outdated.
You have been helpful in the past.....thanks in advance.

Capitan Suizo is a Tamarindo classic with private beach access, beautiful grounds and a great restaurant. A little out of town so quieter but you can still get to the restaurants, bars and shops easily.

I keep hearing about Montezuma, but it sounds more like a Key West type place. I've also heard that it attracts a very young crowd. While I like to party, I'm looking for a laid back vacation. I love Key West, but I can get there much cheaper than going to CR. What are the pros and cons of the area if you want a relaxing visit?

We've been to CR once and went to Monteverde, Arenal and Osa. We were considering the lower Pacific coast, around Dominical and maybe Drake Bay. The other alternative is Belize.

we stayed at ylang ylang last year - we did not feel it was a
party place and to tell you the truth the town was a bit of a disappoinment after wonderingabout it for years.

Ylang ylang was however a truly different experience - wonderful people, wonderful food, nice pool the grounds are very pretty not as much nature as i expected.

We climbed the waterfall and took a ride down to playa domininical - it was very pretty and seemed like more going on down there.
It was interesting I do not think I would return but it was fun. The only drawback to ylang ylang is the 10 minute walk down the beach from town - it is not an easy walk with the tide because the sand is very sinky.

If you are going just to basically stay at ylang ylang than would recomend ylang ylang was very peasceful

We just booked the Tamarindo Diria for 12 nights...staying 30 ft from the beach in the "new area". It is not a bad price either - under 200 a night...

We compared our 12 night accomadations at the four seasons for a wopping 42,000 for the duration...Don't think I am ever going to be vacationing like that but it was fun to look!

Oh and I spent 3 months looking for a hotel on a beach, with a view, near a town, etc...

Montezuma itself is just a laid-back beach town. But, Ylang-Ylang really is an entirely different experience--more like being on a private island. The town itself offers proximity to the local waterfall, the ziplining course, and the Cabo Blanco and Curu reserves.

I didn't get the Key West vibe from Montezuma, and as mentioned Ylang Ylang is pretty wonderful, but for our stay we felt it geared more towards couples or groups, and since it was just my daughter and I it wasn't a perfect fit. I'd definitely recommend it to others or go again with other people.
