Costa Rica car rental

We are looking for a car rental in San Jose starting Dec. 26 - Jan 14th and can't find a thing. Any advice (other than starting months ago!). This was a last minute trip.

carrentals.com out of SJO best screening site
mapache.com servicecarrental.com wild-rider.com
Colony Solid other good local companies. Some
are dodgy bad experience for me with U-save/Avanti avoid.

If all else fails you can cut a deal with a local at the aiport I have done this it works fine if careful.Steve
and Rita of www.casabellarita.com will pick you up
and help you findsomething ifyou get totally jammed up.
also interbusonline.com or odyseeytourscr.com good options
based on budget.

Good luck!

we were happy with Tricolor from SJO. This year we are picking up at Liberia, and returning at SJO. Service was the best quote, but we shall see if Service is ok.

Can recommend Mapache and Adobe as local reliable companies. Haven't checked on availability. Do read fine print. Some companies don't offer $0 deductible. There is a mandatory insurance, then there's full coverage. Strongly recommend the latter. Most company's advertised prices don't include any insurance and some don't include taxes.

Be patient, as the car you want might not be available...for a few days. Learned this as we flew to Nosara after a week there and rented there from Economy and had to wait another day to get out, and even then got a car and not a 4x4 as planned. From an airport though I would think you'd be in and out. It was very easy to return the car at the SJO airport. Best of luck!
